Asian Consortium of Volcanology (ACV): Agenda and Objectives

1. Objectives

Asia is one of the most populated areas both in human beings and volcanoes. We are always faced with violent volcanic disasters and it is necessary to coexist with volcanoes for our sustainable developments in Asian region. Therefore, we propose to establish “Asian Consortium of Volcanology” for the promotion in volcanology as well as the development of strategy for volcanic disaster prevention, through collaboration between volcanologists and authorities. ACV mainly focuses on the development and sharing the knowledge between young volcanologists.

2. Activities

  • Sharing the scientific and technological knowledge for volcanic disaster measures (collaboration with WOVOdat, G-EVER, etc.)
  • Annual workshop
  • Lectures and trainings for young scientists
      • Monitoring technique (Geophysical, Geochemical, Geological)
      • Geological data sampling
      • Data processing (seismic, GPS, gas, etc.)
      • Numerical simulations
      • Database management & Interpretations
      • Crisis administration
      • Socialization (for authorities & publics)
  • Proposals of international joint project

4. Tentative plans

  • Kick-off meeting: Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Sep. 8, 2014 (During the WOVOdat meeting, on the day before COV8)
  • 1st workshop: Unzen, Japan, mid Nov. 2014
  • 2nd workshop: Tanbora, Indonesia, Apr. 2015
